Health Education through Fiction

Demographic transitions pose one of the most significant challenges that Africa will face in the coming decades. With an estimated 60% of the sub-Saharan African population being under 25, young people in this region still face some of the highest child marriage rates globally, coupled with elevated maternal mortality rates, particularly among adolescents. Economic, social, institutional, and geographical barriers can hinder women from accessing quality family planning information and products. In sub-Saharan Africa, around 21% of women wish to avoid pregnancy but do not use modern contraceptive methods*. Youth is a tremendous resource for the region, but their potential can only be realized if societies provide an enabling environment for them to make informed choices.

C’est la vie! (CLV) is a multimedia campaign for social and behavior change in West Africa. Built around the edutainment TV series “C’est la vie!”, it aims to support the adoption of safer and more rights-respecting behaviors in sexual and reproductive health (SRH).

Initiated from Dakar, Senegal, the C’est la vie project is implemented at the community level in 9 countries in the sub-region (Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Togo, Benin, Chad, Guinea, Senegal).
