SRHR Africa Project Manager - Nigeria

Founded in 2004, RAES is a Senegalese NGO that creates innovative strategies for behavior change in Africa. RAES acts as a hub to connect international partners and programs, the media and local civil society. RAES trains, supports and accompanies local actors and communities to access information and implement solutions to their problems. Its mission is to promote social change and an environment conducive to informed individual and collective decision-making based on free, appropriate and complete information.
As part of this mission, RAES recently launched a new sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) project covering six countries to support local actors (civil society organizations, activists,
high profile SRHR champions) to conduct strategic communication campaigns to enable communities to enjoy their rights and access high quality and safe SRHR products and services.
RAES is looking for an individual to support the implementation and coordination of this project in Nigeria.

Mission and areas of responsibility of the position
The main mission of the position is to support the SRHR Africa project coordination in the successful implementation of the project, the formulation of communication strategies and approaches, and in monitoring and coordinating project activities in Nigeria, primarily in the
following states/ areas- Lagos, Ogun, Imo, and Abuja FCT.

Function and Tasks
Coordinating the implementation of the project in Nigeria, under the supervision of the Project Coordinator:

• Build key networks, alliances and relationships with local partners and allies- civil society organisations (CSO), activists, SRHR champions etc. supporting them to conduct activities, spend budget as planned, and deliver results
• Collaborate with project consortium partners, members of the RAES team and external
• Participate in regular meetings related to the objectives, modalities and results of the project
• Disseminate and cascade information necessary for the successful implementation of the
project to the RAES project team and vice versa
• Regularly carry out field visits or missions, to participate in activities, provide support to local
partners and stakeholders involved in the project
• Contribute to the processes of documentation, capitalisation and communication of experience and lessons learned
• Draft high quality interim narrative reports describing progress and providing input into financial reports

• Participate in thematic work and networks or platforms related to the themes or activities of the project
• Identify and mobilize human, financial and technical resources as necessary.
Supporting the development and implementation of effective communication campaigns:

• Support the project coordination to develop strategies and tools designed to support local partners and allies to formulate key messages and and conduct effective communication campaigns
• Participate in design workshops to co-create key messages and develop communication strategies with local partners
• Participate in the development of communication guides for local partners based on discussions during design workshops
• Identify local production partners, supervising content development and ensuring production of appropriate and high quality communication materials
• Support the launch and running of various campaigns, organising regular meetings with the various partners in Nigeria
• Monitor progress against national communication strategies and action plans, ensuring they are implemented as planned
• Collaborate with the RAES monitoring and evaluation team in the formulation of data tools to ensure effective monitoring of the impact of communication and campaigns activities and the indicators identified for various campaigns
Supporting the development and implementation of effective strategies and tools to reinforce the communication and campaigns capacity of local partners and allies:
• Contribute to the development of training modules to reinforce the capacity of local partners based on their needs and priorities
• Organise workshops and training, coordinating logistics (travel, bookings, coordinating, payments etc.)
• Identify a network of journalists and media partners who would benefit from training in effective and objective reporting on SRHR issues
• Co-facilitate trainings and animate creative spaces for local CSO partners and key allies using RAES’ pedagogical resources and methodologies, reinforcing their strategic communication capacity (public speaking, responding to opposition arguments etc.) of key actors working in the domain of SRHR advocacy, campaigns and communications

Conducting research and intelligence gathering

• Regularly monitoring the landscape of SRHR issues and the arguments of pro and anti-
choice actors in Nigeria through in-depth media monitoring - TV debates, interviews, press articles, blogs and chat rooms etc. (transcribing and translating when necessary) to build a database of knowledge
• Signaling relevant information to colleagues and feed into internal discussions on the strategy and themes of the project

Contributing to administrative and financial functions

• Ensure compliance with RAES’ financial and administrative procedures throughout project
implementation (preparation of purchase orders, following travel procedures for field missions etc.)

Key organizational relationships
• Line Manager: SRHR Africa Project Coordinator (based in Dakar);
• Internal functional relations: with all employees of RAES, in particular those working directly on the project (Project Coordinator, project managers for other focus countries, SBCC Consultant, Ops Director, Executive Director, Finance Director, etc.);

• External functional relations: with local CSO partners, key allies (parliamentary, public health and religious leader champions, celebrities, activists, artists etc.); local creative production and media agencies; journalists; consultants (research, trainers, SRHR experts etc.); project consortium partners; operational, technical and financial partners.



• Excellent knowledge of SRHR, particularly in an African context and in
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of context analysis, social and
behavior change communications (SBCC) and community-based
• Understanding of the role and mission of RAES, its core activities and
modalities of intervention


• At least 3-5 years’ experience working in SRHR in an African context, with
experience in SBCC and campaigns related to SRHR a strongly preferred
• At least 2 years’ experience in project management (in an NGO or
international organisation), ideally validated by a diploma or
recommendation from a previous employer
• Experience building partnerships and networks with local CSOs,
institutions and SRHR champions
• Experience organsing workshops and trainings, managing logistics
• Experience planning and facilitating trainings- developing training
content and modules

Other requirements

Ability to travel frequently in the field in Nigeria and occasionally internationally
as and when required

Conditions of the position
• Type of contract : 2 year fixed-term contract under Senegalese local law with a trial
period of 3 months renewable if necessary
• Location : Lagos or Abuja
• Working hours : full-time - 40 hours/week
• Health insurance up to 100%
